Classic apple crumble

Ingredients

  • 125 g plain flour
  • 50 g butter, cubed and chilled
  • 50 g golden caster sugar
  • 450 g apples, peeled, cored and sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan) mark 4. Put the flour into a bowl. Add the butter and rub in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine bread-crumbs. Stir in half the sugar. Put aside.
  2. Arrange half the apples in a 1.1 litre pie dish and sprinkle with the rest of the sugar. Add the remaining apple slices to the dish.
  3. Spoon the crumble mixture over the fruit. Bake in the oven for about 45min or until the fruit is soft. Serve hot with custard or a drizzle of double cream.
