The Perfect Toffee Apple Crumble
Ingredients
- 200 grams plain flour
- 100 grams butter cut into cubes
- 50 grams caster sugar
- 50 grams pecan nuts roughly chopped (optional)
- 5 large crisp eating apples
- 150 grams fudge roughly chopped
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 190C or 374F. Sift the flour and place in a food processor with the butter, blitzing until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs, as coarse or fine as you wish.
- Stir in the sugar and chopped pecan nuts, if you are using them.
- Peel, core and quarter the apples, then slice each quarter into three or four pieces. Butter a 1.8 litre pudding dish and fill with the apple and fudge. Sprinkle the crumble over the top.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, then leave to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. The toffee is created as the fudge melts. Thick pouring cream is the perfect accompaniment.
