Apple Crumble

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Plain Flour
  • 1 cup firmly packed Brown Sugar
  • 100 grams chilled Butter Chopped
  • 1/2 cup Rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup Golden raisins
  • 4-5 medium Granny Smith Apples Chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mixed spice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius
  2. Combine apple, raisins, cloves, cinnamon, mixed spice and 1/2 cup of brown sugar along with 1/4 water into a saucepan and gently simmer, stirring occasionally, until apple is slightly softened (you still want to be able to bite into it!).
  3. Meanwhile, combine flour, remaining brown sugar and oats and rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  4. Strain the apple (discarding the liquid) and spoon the apple mixture into a 1.5L (6 cup) capacity oven proof dish. Scatter the flour mix over the apples. Do not press down; allow the “crumbs” to stay crumbly!!
  5. Bake in oven for 20-25 minutes or until the top is lightly golden.
  6. Serve your crumble with ice cream and custard
