Apple Crumble
Ingredients
- 1 cup Plain Flour
- 1 cup firmly packed Brown Sugar
- 100 grams chilled Butter Chopped
- 1/2 cup Rolled oats
- 1/2 cup Golden raisins
- 4-5 medium Granny Smith Apples Chopped into bite-sized pieces
- 2 Cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon Mixed spice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius
- Combine apple, raisins, cloves, cinnamon, mixed spice and 1/2 cup of brown sugar along with 1/4 water into a saucepan and gently simmer, stirring occasionally, until apple is slightly softened (you still want to be able to bite into it!).
- Meanwhile, combine flour, remaining brown sugar and oats and rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
- Strain the apple (discarding the liquid) and spoon the apple mixture into a 1.5L (6 cup) capacity oven proof dish. Scatter the flour mix over the apples. Do not press down; allow the “crumbs” to stay crumbly!!
- Bake in oven for 20-25 minutes or until the top is lightly golden.
- Serve your crumble with ice cream and custard
